This April 2026 Swaniti Initiative report titled “A Comparative Assessment of Subnational Renewable Energy Policies in India” delivers a comprehensive comparative analysis of renewable energy (RE) policies across 17 Indian states, evaluating ambition, design depth, and alignment with deployment realities, Resource Adequacy Plans (RAPs 2029-30), and Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPOs).
The report identifies integrated policy leaders with integrated clean energy frameworks; notes solar's dominance and storage gaps; and finds aggregate renewable energy targets of 17 states (636 GW) exceeding RAP projections (317 GW), underscoring needs for better synchronization amid India's 500 GW non-fossil goal by 2030.
