India's Mining Processing Infrastructure:

About This Event

Establishing India as a Global Hub for Critical Raw Material Processing Navigating its pathway towards the Net Zero target of 2070, India is also confronted with the opportunity to evolve as key player in a clean technology driven future. In the race towards critical minerals required to deploy these technologies at scale, India must expand its ambition from being a predominantly extractive economy towards a key mineral processing hub globally. Resource availability in terms of land parcels, financial capital, an amenable and conducive market and a high demographic dividend supports this ambition. These also must be leveraged for a sustained and green domestic economic growth. However, this ambition can be realized when proactive government initiatives and policies are bolstered through strong private partnerships and participation as well. The synergies can change the global view of India as a mineral export hub only, build confidence to bring in foreign investment and encourage Indian industries to invest aggressively and swiftly in domestic capability and capacity building to offer cost-competitive processed materials in the global market. The challenge however, is that the market is still nascent. It lacks streamlined interventions in terms of policy, fiscal incentives, accelerated asset acquisition for raw materials, skill orientation etc., towards creating a robust domestic capability to offer cost-competitive processed material to the global market. In this context, Swaniti Initiative is organizing a closed-door roundtable on "India's Mining Processing Infrastructure: Establishing India as a Global Hub for Critical Raw Material Processing". The roundtable will be chaired by Jonathan Pershing, Program Director for Environment at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and will bring together private sector companies to unpack the specific challenges and opportunities for India to realize its potential as a critical mineral processing hub.
