Improving Learning Environments through Welcoming Spaces in Nagrota, Jammu And Kashmir




Rural communities in the constituency are backward in terms of literacy and education. The current state of schools and school education is not up to the mark, which is reflected by the fact that most government schools don’t have an environment that is conducive for learning. The team noticed that classrooms were damp, with paint peeling off in several places.

The essence of the project was to bring budding and professional artists to Nagrota and provide them with a platform to collaborate with teachers and school administrators in order to create a learning space within which students find both pride and inspiration.

Swaniti partnered with the Scribble Foundation, a Mumbai-based organization that is building a sustainable movement to provide future Indian citizens with invaluable personal values and life skills through the expression of art and its various forms

The classrooms in these schools were painted with murals based on different themes, which best suited the learning needs of the students. They were based on the ideas and thoughts expressed by the children themselves. .
