National Rural Health Mission (NRHM)

Rural India is plagued with poor health infrastructure (only 0.69 physicians per 1000 population) along with poor health indicators (an Infant Mortality Rate of 48 per 1000 live births). The National Rural Health Mission aims to provide equitable, affordable and quality healthcare to rural India. It commits to raising public expenditure on health to 2-3% of GDP from 1.2%. It envisions involvement of the community to monitor and deliver health services in rural India
